About this Qualification
The aim of the qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of how to prevent and control infection. It includes the principles of the causes and spread of infection, cleaning and decontamination, personal hygiene and preventative measures. This qualification is suitable for those who are employed or are seeking employment within the health and social care sector. It does not confer competence but provides learners with knowledge relevant to a wide range of job roles within health or social care settings.
The main objective is preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding, also preparing learners for employment and supporting a role in the workplace.
